How Can We Preserve Our Community Treasures?

Since the start of our campaign, there have been some concerns about how reopening The Tram might impact other beloved Eardisley businesses, such as The Strand and the village hall.

We have addressed these concerns in our business presentation on the website, but we want to further reassure everyone by outlining our vision for how all our cherished venues can thrive together.

Here are a few points to help ease any worries:

1.     Harmony and History: The Tram Inn coexisted with The Strand and the village hall for decades before its closure. We firmly believe that these community spaces can flourish together once again. In fact, we see numerous opportunities for them to support each other and become even more successful.

2.     Stronger Together: A close-knit community is greater than the sum of its parts. By valuing all that our village has to offer, we can work together to help each venue flourish. If we can purchase The Tram, it will not operate in competition with the village hall or The Strand. As a community-owned asset, we have the power to uphold this commitment.

3.     Diverse Offerings: Each venue in our village serves a unique purpose. Having a variety of options enriches our community life rather than detracting from it. Many residents already use all the venues in different ways, and this diversity is something we are fortunate to have.

4.     Collaborative Spirit: In many towns and villages, public houses support each other through joint events and competitions. One of our team members grew up in a pub in Romsey, a small market town with 12 pubs that frequently collaborated. Running a pub doesn't have to be a solitary endeavour; by working together, we can create a vibrant community spirit.

5.     Community Control: We understand the concerns about potential competition with The Strand’s business. However, if The Tram is community-owned, we can ensure it complements rather than competes with other venues. If a private owner or larger brewery were to purchase it, competition would be inevitable, and our options would be limited to voting with our feet.

6.     Revitalising The Tram: The Tram is currently falling into disrepair, which affects our community's overall appearance. By revitalising The Tram, we can transform it into a positive asset for Eardisley once more. Imagine enjoying a slice of cake at The Strand or queuing to post a parcel while looking out at a beautifully restored Tram.

Together, we have the power to protect and enhance all the wonderful venues in our village. Let's work together to make this vision a reality.
